Jurassic World: Rebirth
Jurassic World: Rebirth (2025) really was a fresh start that this franchise desperately needed. Gareth Edwards really showed that he was up to this task. Considering his works on movies like Godzilla (2014) and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016), he really did put his all into this movie, showing his amazing sense of scale. He also put his camera skills to work, shooting on film, with only the dinosaurs being CGI.
The film has some great action sequences, but gets off to a slow start. The action was on point but the plot lacks in flavour and ends up being quite bland. The acting was underwhelming but it did its job. The cinematography is beautiful, showing how mystical the new island is. A lot of the scenes with dinosaurs were great, with a lot of suspense and leaning further into the horror elements.
The third act does drag the film down, seeming a lot different to the previous tone of the movie. Another critique is that there were two different storylines we go between, even though it feels quite forced, and some action sequences just serve to move the characters to a new location. I think there were some questionable character decisions towards the end. The characters lack depth, which also limits the actors from demonstrating their best performances.
Overall, this movie was quite enjoyable, with some fun action scenes and great suspense, but it lacks in depth with a basic plot and shallow characters. This movie is like a cookies and cream ice cream, it’s quite plain with some good parts in it, not anything special, but you can’t complain. Very solid movie to get this franchise back on track. We give it a 78%.
