Incredibles 2
Incredibles 2 is a let-down from the first Incredibles in almost every way, while still trying to do the exact same story as the original.
While not a direct duplicate, Incredibles 2 does the exact same story arc with the main character, just with Helen instead of Bob. Both are tired of their regular life, and take on the opportunity to become super again in a secret job, while the other has to take care of the family at home, but the job isn’t what it seems, and the family has to fight together to take down the villain.
And you may be wondering, why is it so bad that Incredibles 2 copies its predecessor? Wasn’t Incredibles great? And in a sense, that’s right, I like Helen in this movie, and she gets some great, beautifully animated action scenes, and overall, much more to do. But other than that, everything is much worse. The most obvious is the villain. Nobody was expecting Incredibles 2 to match the greatness of one of the best villains of all time in Syndrome, but Screenslaver was just terrible; her motivation wasn’t at all interesting or memorable because she is a twist villain. Hence, she barely gets any backstory and feels underwhelming. Not only that, but the twist that she was Screenslaver could easily be seen in the first 20 minutes.
It’s not just the villain that was the downgrade, though, while in the first movie, all the kids and Helen get good character arcs and are really interesting, while in the second, the kids barely do anything at all, while Bob seems to regress from his character in the first movie to become a whiny, selfish person again. The only saving relief is, of course, Edna and the newly introduced Jack-Jack, who had some very funny moments.
Overall, Incredibles 2 has some good parts, such as Helen and the wonderful Animation but ultimately fails at copying its predecessor. We give it a 57%
