Forrest Gump

Forrest Gump might be the best comedy movie of all time. I have never laughed more while watching a movie. Maybe it’s because the comedy actually feels real, unlike movies from people such as Adam Sandler.

But anyway, I think Forrest Gump is great because it’s so hard to do something unique, and they somehow found how to do that. Tom Hanks has one of the best acting performances ever, playing one of the best and most unique characters of all time. His personality, with his charm, his kindness, his obliviousness and sometimes even his stupidness, he is just so likable.

But what’s incredible about the movie is that it’s not just Forrest, because eventually you would get tired of it just being about him, but really, what the filmmakers decided to do, or the author of the book decided to do, was to show the story of others through the lens of Forrest. One of the most brilliant storytelling ideas I’ve ever seen. From Jenny’s troubled youth, to her growing up, and being lonely to the point where she almost kills herself, Mrs Gump, who tries her best for Forrest to have the best life that he can, no matter what it costs her, Lieutenant Dan, who despises Forrest for not letting him die in Vietnam, but eventually growing to love him after struggling with drinking and life as an amputee, and of course Bubba, who is so similar to Forrest and so loveable too, and tragically dies. One of the best casts of characters ever.

And the plot is so different too, because it’s from Forrest’s retelling of his life, the movie jumps around quickly and is very fast paced, which works perfectly because it means that there is constant jokes and there are always new things that are endearing. From his childhood to the military to ping-pong, to the Shrimp Company to the run, to finally his son Forrest Jr in his childhood. Simply brilliant.

Overall, Forrest Gump is such a unique and hilarious movie, with a brilliant cast of characters and story, we give it an 88%.
