Arrival
Arrival is one of the greatest true sci-fi movies to ever be made. Every aspect of this movie works together to make a beautiful cinematic blend of incredible acting, raw emotions, delectable visuals, and an all around amazing experience.
First of all, the overall concept is incredibly interesting and intriguing, whilst the emotional themes ar egenuinely sad when you think about it. The fact that Dr Banks has to live knowing that her future brings nothing but despair is extremely sad and dark. Tere are some scenes that really get you thinking, especially towards the end. They will have you unknowingly gongoozling at your screen at how conceptually masterful this movie truly is.
Amy Adams and Jeremy Renner both give incredible performances. Esepcially I would like to highlight Amy Adams as Dr Banks. Her acting was utterly stellar in this film, every scene, she brought her all, and she played the emotions and confusion of her character so well. She was sadly snubbed of an Oscar nomination, but that doesn’t make this performance any less incredible.
The score is also incredibly emotional yet threatening, especially the theme that plays when we first see the heptapods. And the use of “On The Nature of Daylight” is absolutely perfect, and it really hooks you in at the startof the film.
Denis Villeneuve directs this movie to perfection. With every shot being picture worthy, but my favourite shot is at the end when it’s dark and you just see Louise drinking laughing and dancing. That scene and everything involveed in it was genuinely moving, and brought the movie to it’s beautiful emotional ending.
Overall, Arrival is one of the best true sci fi movies to ever be made, with stellar performances, incredible sound, amazing directing and lots of emotion. Arrival is a truly remarkable cinematic acheivement.
