Spider-man: Brand New Day
Spider-Man brand new day is a great start to what will hopefully be a great new trilogy of Tom Holland’s Spider-Man. All of us at Movie Munchy agree that it isn’t as good as people say, and that No Way Home is better despite it having its own problems. But this review is about Brand New Day so lets get on with it.
The story is pretty average in our opinion. It follows Peter Parker four years after everyone forgets him in No Way Home, including his girlfriend MJ and best friend Ned. Due to the stress of him practically having no social life, he starts to lose control of his power, and his ‘Spider’ hormones take over. It also follows Jean Grey, played by Sadie Sink, a telekinetic who can take control of people’s minds, who is on a path of revenge against the Department of Damage Control after they took her sister. I think one of the only problems with this film is that Jean feels “too” evil. She straight up kills people to achieve her goals and commits psychological warfare to the highest degree, then at the end we’re just supposed to forgive her because her sister died?
But other than that, I think most of the film is pretty incredible. I’m not personally as big of a fan of the visuals as other people, with the unique angles, such as inside the suit, the dolly zooms, the camera flips and much more, but I like that Deston Daniel Cretton, the director, is trying something unique, so I have to respect it.
I thinks all the actors do pretty well in this movie for what they are, Tom Holland is in my opinion the best Spider-Man actor of the 3, and he has some great comedic moments with Jon Bernthal’s Punisher, who is surprisingly prevalent in this film. Zendaya really shines in this film and has many great moments, as well as Sadie Sink, who is going to become a superstar actor in the next few years.
Overall, Spider-Man: Brand New Day is a great film that perfectly steps the line between emotional moments, action moments and comedic moments, we give it a 79%.
