Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom

Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom was a big step down from its predecessor, with it receiving clear backlash from both fans and critics. With J.A. Bayona directing this one, the movie is noticeably darker than the others, with some good horror elements to it. Sadly, the first half lacks in creativity, while the second half has huge plot holes and takes a weird turn for the franchise.

The plot is basically just The Lost World again, but they spend little time on the island, and the second half is seriously long and dragged out. The whole clone plotline is stupid, and would be much better if it was sidelined and never had any impact on the actual ending.

The acting is… alright. It is obviously due to the character depth that is basically a puddle. With your two leads being “Navy Guy Who Likes Animals” and “Money Business Lady” there is not nearly enough to deal with, and this is no disrespect to the actors in any way. It is completely due to poor writing that we get these lifeless characters, but it is an action movie, so it’s mostly just chase scenes with little dialogue.

The cinematography of this film is pretty good, nothing special at all, but I like how it is unique to the other films. Some of the horror shots in the third act are pretty solid. The CGI is also great as expected, but come on, it’s a Jurassic movie.

The entertainment is pretty good, but not nearly as engaging as the first three movies. Overall this movie is just The Lost World all over again, but slightly worse. Its core aspects however, are solid and don’t ruin the whole movie. Pretty flawed but enjoyable.
