Venom: The Last Dance

Somehow, a franchise known for having aimless plots disappointed me when I watched Venom: The Last Dance, and I was truly confused as to why everything was happening in the first place.

I mean, you could understand it, at least a little bit, and the whole movie felt so unfocused, but I’m actually alright with that. While going into the movie, I was really excited to see Knull, one of the best comic villains of all time, just to be useless sitting on a throne and sending his goons to capture Eddy and Venom, I didn’t really care. Mainly because the movie is actually able to create this loving connection between the two intertwined protagonists, I wasn’t really focused on anything else happening in the movie plot-wise, and I’m happy about that, because most of it was terrible. From the movie focusing way too much on these military people who we have never seen before, who are studying symbiotes in Area 51, or what about that dumb hippie family who take Eddy in, and are searching for aliens, and of course, how could I fail to mention the cinematic masterpiece that is Venom dancing with Ms Chen in Las Vegas. Seriously, what the hell was happening in this movie?

But I do like the whole premise of these alien creatures sent by Knull that track Eddy through a codex when he transforms into Venom. It adds a lot of dramatic tension and some good comedy. And while I have bashed on this movie for the plot a bit, that last thing is exactly why it works, comedy. Venom: The Last Dance is a really funny movie; it’s not as hilarious as the original Venom, but it still has some very funny moments and some interesting uses of Venom, such as the Venom horse.

So even though it doesn’t have the best plot, it has great humour, and somehow, it still manages to portray that relationship between Eddy and Venom in their last dance in a beautiful way. We give it a 54%
