Harry Potter and the deathly hallows: Part 1
I am so sick of people say that “Harry Potter doesn’t have a single bad movie,” YES IT DOES! This boring, slow-paced one with whiny teenagers is a bad movie. That’s right, I’m talking about Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows: Part 1.
And that part 1 is exactly what makes this movie bad. The Deathly Hallows book simply doesn’t have enough substance to be split into two movies, similar to other movies such as Hunger Games: Mockingjay: Part 1. I mean, the start and the end of the movie are great, with the 7 Harry’s, and them escaping Malfoy Manor and Dobby dying, but literally everything else is so boring. Without the business of Hogwarts and all the character’s there, we are stuck with the Golden Trio on their own for most of the movie on a mission to get and destroy the Horcruxes, but this movie makes you realise that when they are grown up, this trio is not fun anymore. They have no life in them, just whining to each other over and over again. And I understand that this was how it was in the books, but it didn’t really matter in book form because we eventually got to the Battle for Hogwarts, but no, because this movie is a part 1, scenes that are only 10 or 20 pages in the book go on for what feels like forever. Scenes such as them in the forest, them at the Lovegood’s, and the trio invading the ministry are just like this.
One of the things that also doesn’t translate well into the movie is Ron’s doubt and turning through the horcrux. It works well in the books because Ron used to be really smart while still being a funny person, but in all the movies Ron is just turned into a comic-relief while being played off as dumb, meaning he doesn’t get that character development. This means that once we get to this crucial stage in his development of his character in the books of him turning because of the horcrux, it just makes him annoying and feel like a useless plot device. The Ron we knew was not just a plot device.
I don’t believe that any of these problems are due to the acting though, Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and everyone else does a great job, but sadly the scenes are dragged out and the scripting and hence the character’s just aren’t there. Movie Munchy give Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows: Part 1 a 30%.
