Battlefield Earth (2000)
Battlefield Earth is the sci-fi movie where humans lose Earth… and then spend two hours trying to win it back from giant alien dreadlock bankers. Yes, really.
Starring John Travolta as the villainous alien Terl, the film is set in a future where Earth is ruled by the Psychlos — big, loud aliens who apparently discovered hair spray but not subtlety. The movie aims for epic and lands somewhere between “Saturday morning cartoon” and “how did this get funded?”
The camera angles are so tilted you might feel like your TV is sliding off the wall. The dialogue is dramatic. The laughs are… sometimes intentional. And while the concept had potential, the execution is famously messy.
That said, it’s kind of fascinating to watch. Not “good” fascinating — more “I can’t believe this exists” fascinating.
