Star Wars: A New Hope

The one that started it all. The entire Star Wars universe is probably one of, if not the most, expansive and amazing fictional universe ever created.

I genuinely have no idea how George Lucas managed to show this incredible universe while still having such a great and iconic story and characters. I think the main reason people fell in love with the series was because of the characters. From Luke, to Leia, to Han Solo, Chewbacca, Obi-Wan, C-3PO, R2-D2 and of course, arguably the best villain of all time in Darth Vader. Still to this day, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a better-designed villain in my life.

And this lovable group of characters goes perfectly with this underdog plot of “saving the princess,” and “defying the odds to defeat the enemy,” with Luke’s miracle shot to blow up the Death Star. The movie ends with you feeling overjoyed.

Some might say that A New Hope is dated, but I think the visuals surprisingly hold up when it matters. I understand that there are some scenes where George shoved in some terrible CGI, but the practical effects like the trench run and the Death Star still look amazing.

Overall, while A New Hope might not be many people’s favourite star wars project, you have to respect it for introducing us to this universe in a spectacular way. We give it an 84%.
