Project Hail Mary
Project Hail Mary is one of the best book adaptations I have seen in a while. It somehow makes you laugh, cry, be angry, scared, and pretty much any other emotion during its two-and-a-half-hour runtime.
At the core of the movie are the two main characters, Grace (played by Ryan Gosling), and Rocky, an alien who looks like a spider made of rocks, but is somehow really cute. Even though he doesn’t speak (until he gets a translator device), Rocky is one of the funniest characters I have seen in a while.
The plot follows the two trying to save their respective planets as an organism is destroying their sun, and they have to figure out how to fix it by going to the one sun that isn’t dying. The plot is brilliant, and it allows these characters to have some great moments as they try to figure out what’s going on, and while I’ll try to keep this review spoiler-free, there are also some sad moments that the two have to go through. The movie also follows Grace (and also us) slowly learning how he got there and who he is, which makes us care for the character even more, thanks to some great acting by Ryan Gosling.
The only negative thing I would say about the movie is the pacing, with the first half before Rocky is introduced being a bit slow, but other than that, Project Hail Mary is one of the best movies of 2026 so far and thoroughly deserves this 82% rating.
