Fantastic Four
Fantastic Four (2005) is a fun and campy superhero movie starring Ioan Gruffuld (Reed Richards / Mr Fantastic), Jessica Alba (Sue Storm / Invisible Woman), Chris Evans (Johnny Storm / Human Torch), Michael Chiklis (Ben Grimm / The Thing) and Julian McMahon (Victor Von Doom / Doctor Doom). The film is nothing special when compared to things like Avengers Infinity War and Endgame but is still a fun little introduction to a beloved team in an interesting way.
The first part of the film focuses on the origin of the abilities gained by Reed, Sue, Johnny and Victor on a space mission where they encounter a cosmic wave and gain these supernatural abilities. The middle third of the film is slow but mildly enjoyable. It shows each of the members of the team come closer together when learning to control their powers.
Overall, the film is a fun introduction to an enjoyable cast of beloved heroes in true comic book fashion. Despite this, the film’s pacing is inconsistent and janky at times with only one real action sequence in the final confrontation with Doctor Doom. The film is enjoyable enough to see the cast interact with each other learning how to use their powers but is still a mediocre film at best.
