DC: League of Super Pets

DC: League of Super-Pets is a lighthearted animated comedy that aims to bring the world of superheroes to younger audiences through the perspective of their animal companions. The film centres on Krypto the Super-Dog (voiced by Dwayne Johnson) teaming up with a ragtag group of shelter pets who gain powers and must step up when Superman and the Justice League are captured. It’s a cute premise with flashes of fun, and there’s some genuine charm in watching super-powered animals bicker, bond, and save the day.

However, while kids may be entertained, older audiences will likely find it underwhelming. Much of the humor leans heavily on slapstick and pop culture references rather than clever writing, and the emotional beats don’t carry the same weight as stronger animated superhero outings. The film also feels like it drags in places, stretching a thin story into a longer runtime than necessary. The voice cast is stacked with star power, Johnson, Kevin Hart, John Krasinski, and Keanu Reeves among others, but at times it feels like the film relies too much on its celebrity names rather than the material itself. Reeves’ take on Batman is a highlight, injecting dry humour that lands better than most of the film’s jokes.

Ultimately, League of Super-Pets is a serviceable distraction for kids and pet lovers, but it’s far from essential. It’s a safe, middle-of-the-road animated feature that doesn’t make much of an impression beyond its cute concept, and for Batman fans, it’s little more than a side curiosity.
