The Super Mario Galaxy Movie
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie might be the first movie I’ve ever seen where all the reviews are completely accurate. It’s a movie that is fun to watch, but goes from one action scene to another way too fast and leaves no time for good character moments.
Seriously, there are so many good characters in this movie but they never interact. Yoshi is introduced, does nothing. Rosalina, while crucial to the plot, has like 5 minutes screen time. Starfox was basically useless except for setting up the Super Smash Bros. Movie, which would be epic. Donkey Kong isn’t even in it which was weird, but understandable. Even I was like “oh look that’s Birdo!” and then she was gone a minute later and probably can’t be used ever again. Mario and Peach are for some reason split up so they almost never talk, and Toad does nothing either.
But realistically, you’re only disappointed leaving the cinema, the experience of actually watching the movie is a blast. You have such a good time seeing all the references, cameos and callbacks, and only after the movie do you see the flaws.
And that is the reason there is little plot, Bowser Jr tries to save his father and use Rosalina to create a super weapon, there are other parts but it all gets drowned out, and as I said that’s fine.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is flawed in many ways, but it’s fun, and that is what’s most important. We give it a 66%.
