The Acolyte
IS THE ACOLYTE THE WORST STAR WARS PROJECT EVER? Or is it just misunderstood? Listen, I understand the hate, but it’s not worse than The Book of Boba Fett or The Last Jedi; it actually has some positives to it.
First of all, I think the story is there, but it was just poorly executed. The slow burn of the reveal that it was the Jedi who burned down the twins Osha and Mae’s home just makes the first few episodes really boring, and that’s where I think most people stopped watching and called this terrible. But the last few episodes had the best lightsaber choreography since the prequels, and the last episode wasn’t even that bad. The sisters essentially switching sides was a good choice, Osha killing Sol, the bleeding of the lightsaber, the Jedi covering it up, and freaking Darth Plagueis!
But other than that, I have to admit, it was pretty bad. Every flashback to the witches and the twins when they were young was just boring, and so was the entire Jedi Order. The Jedi were painted as somewhat foolish, which I somewhat understand with the show’s message that the Jedi weren’t always right, but I don’t think it fits within the context of how the twists played out. Qimir is a mid villain at best; he’s mysterious, which is cool, and that massacre of the Jedi was awesome, but there is no way to understate it, his seduction tactics to make Osha turn to the dark side are just weird and ruin his character.
Overall, it’s a boring and painful watch for most of the show; it has some highlights, especially the last episode, but it still deserves this 17%.
